The new trail at Mailbox Peak

Nice job by the WA State Department of Natural Resources and WTA volunteers with the new trail up Mailbox Peak. It’s still a grunt, now less technical.

Old and new trails side by side.

Kendall Katwalk

Trail starts north of I-90…

…views of the central Cascades…

…walk through old growth…

…finally out to the Kendall Katwalk…

…where a lone tree stands guard.

Walk further north…

…around the ridgeline…

…where wild flowers are peaking…

…and head back to the Katwalk…

…by the tail end of the ridgeline…

…and stand on the edge.

Granite Mountain

Approach up the mountain…

…still climbing…

…time to jump onto the talus field…

…easy to get light-headed here…

…final climb…

…and inside…

…looking southeast from the lookout…

…looking south to Mt. Rainier…

Mailbox Peak

Look for the white trail markers on the way up and back down.

Crossing a mini root field…

Mt. Rainier pops up across the talus field and trail marker…
